Yesterday was a momentous day. Hannah and I did not eat one single piece of chocolate. Not one. (There was a little cocoa in the small piece of cake we tasted, but…) We felt that really was an accomplishment. For real, the Swiss eat so much chocolate, it is rare to go through a day without some tiny piece. I am loving de Schweiz!
Last night after service and practicing singing with Simon (Little Ruedi) and Nati, I showed Rahel and Daniela and Prisca some pictures from the last weekend. Then, feeling hunger, Hannah and I snuck down to the kitchen before the doors were locked at 10pm. We are always discovered in the kitchen!! There we were, sitting around the high community table (the one where if anything is on it, it is free for the taking, and you don’t want to leave anything valuable on it) eating yummy (a word I have had to teach them, they never heard it) yogurt with apricots, and in stalks Simon S. And the hilarious thing is, I had just finished telling Hani how at home I love to put a little whipped cream on my milk, sprinkle it with nutmeg, and drink it from a straw, and then proceeded to do that in a little glass. All this time we were complaining how we looked too fat here, and then skinny Simon gets himself a glass, and drinks a whole bunch of whey, telling us how it has so little calories and lots of protein. All we could do was laugh, and he all seriously is trying to figure out what we think is so funny. We had been talking about private things which was dangerous too, because we have been surprised in there before while talking when someone appears out of the dark. As we were chatting, I was imagining how if it had been Anna with me, she would hush me and say, “It’s far too dangerous to talk here, we have been caught before”. But, I thought it was late, and everyone is in bed… but no, Studious Simon who does nothing but school was wide awake and needing nourishment at that ungodly hour. :]

It’s another warm sunny day here, I have been working outside with long sleeves or a sweatshirt. The mountains finally appeared again today, it has been a while. This week I am working a lot up at the flower shop. It has been really nice to spend time with Elisabeth and Rebecca S. I have also been doing a lot of sewing this week. They found out that I can sew, and since then I have been mending and teaching various ladies how to sew. It is fun, and I tell them that from this time forth, they will only be able to sew in English. :] Today just before lunch Rahel and I ran into Affoltern and bought some invisible zippers at a Bernina store! I found the cutest little Swiss appliqués, and when I went to buy them, Rahel grabbed it and purchased them for me! I want to sew them on a denim jacket when I get home. Now Hani is shopping with Mirjam for kitchen supplies.

It was a tossup between writing and filing my nails tonight. I opted for my nails.
